Dear Yamel

Spring has sprung! Take advantage of the wonderful weather and spend your respite outside. Start working in your garden or take a walk. Both are great ways to get some exercise and take care of yourself. Taking these moments for yourself are so very important. If you stay healthy and happy, you will be able to better care for your loved one.

Looking for more ideas on what to do during your respite? Check out the rest of this email or call the TRC Respite Helpline at 1-888-579-7791. We can help you plan your respite time so you return to your caregiving duties rested, relaxed and refreshed.

Take care of you!

Executive Director

March is National Nutrition Month!
Maintaining good nutritional habits is tough for anyone, but it's especially difficult for a caregiver. Often your loved one is on a special diet or has a particularly selective appetite. There may be other family members to feed, and your time and energy are certainly limited. However, caregivers still need to eat right.  Check out this link on healthy eating for family caregivers.

Tips for Caregiver Stress

Taking care of someone who needs assistance can be very rewarding. However, it can also also take a high stress toll on a person.  The emotional and physical strain of caregiving can cause the caregiver's own health to decline.  Below are some useful tips that have helped others deal with caregiver stress:
  • Get Respite!
  • Don't give in to guilt,
  • Get informed,
  • Join a support group,
  • Stay connected,
  • Commit to staying healthy,
  • See your doctor.
